Bottoms Up

Bottoms Up!

Discussions & knowledge exchange for rope bottoms

While there are many workshops and events aimed at helping riggers to develop technical skills and learn to tie better, we often hear from bottoms that they wish that there were more events specifically for them. Which is why we decided to host Bottoms Up! An event aimed specifically at rope bottoms, where we can discuss our experiences, share our knowledge & learn from each other.

The key thing here is not acquiring technical skills, but rather to learn from each other's lived experiences, and leaning into our soft skills as bottoms. We believe that there is an important social aspect to “doing rope”, which is something we cherish, and which we believe is crucial to improve our safety. This is why we want to encourage meeting other rope bottoms, making new friends and strengthening existing connections. We hope to host this event more often and foster a sense of community.

Topics will be decided by the participants on the day of the event as time allows, but might include things such as:

  • Dealing with frustrations in rope

  • Objectification of rope bottoms in the rope scene

  • How your relationship with your rigger impacts your bottoming experience

  • What bottoms can do to reduce the risk of injury & improve their own safety

  • Consciously bringing emotions into play and allowing for emotional vulnerability

  • Feeling your body and trying to understand the difference between "good" & "bad" pain

  • Giving and receiving feedback

The discussions will be led by @SarahCalanthe and @tasteofdinner, who both have 4+ years experience as a rope bottom, with different riggers in different styles. They will be accompanied by several other bottoms with a variety of experience and different backgrounds. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in the discussions, to ask questions and share their own experiences & knowledge.
